Spoons Cafe & Restuarant

SPOONS is a restaurant and hospitality training centre established to support social enterprise initiatives in Siem Reap. The project combines dining, learning and community engagement within a lightweight bamboo structure designed to maximise natural ventilation, shade and connections to the surrounding landscape.
Our involvement began following the development of an initial roof concept by another architectural team. Working closely with the bamboo consultant, fabricator, structural engineer and contractor, we developed the concept into a fully realised building, resolving the structural system, detailing and roofing techniques required to deliver the project. The flowing bamboo roof creates a distinctive architectural identity while providing a generous sheltered space for dining, training and community events.
In addition to the main dining pavilion, the project included the design of the adjoining kitchen, bar and support facilities. The structure was detailed using bolted connections, allowing major components to be dismantled, relocated and reassembled if required. The result is a flexible and sustainable building that demonstrates the architectural potential of bamboo while supporting hospitality training and social enterprise programmes in Cambodia.
